    Abstract: Drug use is a global phenomenon that affects millions of people and has serious health and social consequences. The present study describes the application of wastewater epidemiology to investigate the latest drug consumption trends in the Catalan cities of Barcelona and Lleida. A total of 27 drugs and metabolites were monitored in three wastewater treatment plants in Catalonia in the spring 2023 season. The analysis was carried out using liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry and the concentrations obtained were transformed into data from consumption.
