    Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to explore the current state and future prospects of startups in Japan, emphasizing the role of entrepreneurship and innovation. The paper is divided into two main parts: a theoretical framework and practical applications. The theoretical section discusses the importance of new business creation for economic development, the characteristics of Japanese startups, and the evolution from keiretsu to startup ecosystems. It also examines the impact of Japan's Lost Three Decades on entrepreneurship and recent trends in innovative startups. The theoretical part concludes with an analysis of government policies, support strategies, and the role of tertiary education in fostering entrepreneurship. Key findings highlight the need to increase venture capital, improve support for entrepreneurs, and the importance of innovation to drive economic growth. The practical section compares Japan's startup ecosystem with those of other regions, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, China, South Korea, the United States, and Europe. This comparison also helps to better understand the Japanese business environment related to startups.
