Title in different languages: Greek religion in the Strait of Messina: Rhégion and Zancle.
Abstract: This study aims, through the study of Greek and Latin textual sources, to explain the religious landscape of two cities of Magna Grecia, Rhegion and Zancle. This analysis is complemented by the study of material remains and other sources, such as epigraphy or numismatics. It has chosen this area because of the peculiarity of the Strait, two cities that are located opposite each other; It has been also included the chora of the cities. The chronological limits of the study range from foundation to Roman times, but with special emphasis on the archaic era. It starts with the founding myths, to continue with the various deities documented, highlighting Apollo and Artemis for Rhegion and Artemis and Poseidon for Zancle. Other religious events such as festivals or games have also been studied. Through comparative analysis with other cities of Magna Graecia and Greece, the knowledge of the development of cults in the area of the strait has been expanded.
