    Abstract:
Severe obesity represents a serious health concern requiring urgent intervention. (Poly)phenols could help managing this condition. This 12-week randomised clinical trial evaluated the effects of adding a (poly)phenol-rich supplement to a hypocaloric diet on anthropometric, body composition, cardiometabolic and inflammatory outcomes in adults with severe obesity. Both groups experienced significant reductions in body weight and body mass index, while waist circumference only decreased significantly in the intervention group. Most biomarkers remained unchanged, except for significant increases in adiponectin and TNFR1 in the intervention group. The absence of significant between-group differences suggests outcomes were primarily driven by reduced energy intake.
