Title in different languages: Ferrous scrap: driving the circular economy in the steel industry
Abstract: This study analyzes the role of ferrous scrap in promoting a circular economy within the steel industry, focusing on the influence of R&D&I on the strategies of leading global companies. Through a multiple case study of nine steel mills, and using a mixed-methods approach, hypotheses about the relationship between R&D&I, scrap use, and emissions reduction were evaluated. The results confirm that R&D&I is crucial for advancing circularity (H1), correlates positively with scrap use (H2), negatively with CO2 emissions (H3), and improves scrap quality management (H4), although barriers remain.
