Title in different languages: Optimizing Energy Efficiency in Buildings Through The Integration of Phase Change Materials Into Building Envelopes
Abstract: This study investigates integrating Phase Change Materials (PCMs) into building envelopes to enhance energy efficiency and thermal comfort across diverse climates: Dubai (hot-humid), Riyadh (hot-arid), and Amman (temperate). PCMs were embedded in walls and roofs with climate-specific melting points, guided by weather and energy demand analyses. Using DesignBuilder with EnergyPlus, a parametric study evaluated heat transfer, energy demand, and comfort. Results showed heat flux reductions up to 40% (walls) and 72% (roofs), with the highest gains in Riyadh. Findings highlight that tailored PCM placement and design optimize performance, supporting low-energy, climate-adaptive buildings.
