Title in different languages: Simulation by finite elements method (FEM) of HCR silicone extrusion process
Abstract: Extrusion is one of the most extended processes in the rubber industry, but the viscoelastic behavior of these materials makes it difficult to obtain complex profiles. This work aims at the design of the die that provides the desired extruded profile. For this purpose, a study based on FEM of the HCR silicone extrusion process will be carried out using the commercial software Ansys Polyflow. Several mathematical models will be used to characterize the material from the results of rheological tests. The objective of the simulations is to determine the correct geometry of the die, which will be mechanized to perfom the profil extrusion and validate the numerical model based on the experimentation. The Power Law and Carreau-Yasuda models were not able to describe the correct behavior of the silicone. The PTT model correctly modeled viscosity and modules, but not the first normal stress due to lack of data.
