Abstract:
Tarragona Slow Bike is a Master Thesis carried out through a scholarship from the “Direcció General de Turisme de la Generalitat de Catalunya” and proposed by the Catalonia Tourist Office in Tarragona. It is a study of the bicycle touring applied to Tarragona city which is based on the opportunities and lacks offered by the city. From this point, a diagnostic has been conducted to identify the specific needs and to suggest some proposal to energize this practise and, in addition, an improvement and enlargement of the bicycle touring facilities network of the city. The main sources used have been the basic population and cartographic data of Tarragona, available in “Institut d’Estadística de Catalunya” and “Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya”, municipal documents about its mobility, such as the “Pla de Mobilitat Urbana i Sostenible”, and bibliography specialized in this topic. This study shows that bicycle touring in Tarragona is yet to be developed in an efficient way due to the complexity of the urban planning, the height differences and bad planning and design of the promotion politics, among others. However, this study aims to highlight territorial resources of the city associating it to the bicycle mobility as an efficient and sustainable mean of transportation. For this reason, it has been realized some proposals for invigorate bicycle touring, improve existing infrastructures network and suggest an extension with the construction of three new routes designed for designed to connect the city with its tourist attractions. The first, allows you to reach El Pont del Diable by bicycle. The second, runs along the Tarragona coastline to Platja de la Móra. The last one is an urban section in the Part Alta of Tarragona. Key
