Title in different languages: THE TOURIST MOBILITY IN PUBLIC TRANSPORT IN THE “COSTA DAURADA”: HOW DO THE METEOROLOGICAL CONDITIONS AFFECT TO TOURISTS?
Abstract: The aim of this study is the analysis of mobility in the coastal municipalities of Cambrils, Salou and Vila-seca, located on the central Costa Daurada of Tarragona, from the exploitation of the passenger transport register (public bus). This analysis is carried out considering the meteorological conditions as the main variable, and it is carried out in the temporary frame of the summer, which is when the area registers the largest volume of visitors - due to the marked seasonality that characterizes the area - , which has an impact on the area’s transport network. Combining the data of the meteorological records to detect the days of adverse weather and while exploring the database of all the travel records of the ATM (Territorial Authority of Mobility) of Tarragona, we focus on the appropriate variables in order to analyze the movements of tourist tickets (basically, simple and T-10). The results of the work reflect different behaviors depending on the prevailing weather, so that, indeed, meteorology plays a significant role in tourists’ mobility patterns. Likewise, the analysis is also used to detect the stops with the highest volume of passengers, as well as the lines that record the most traffic.
