    Abstract:
Municipality B is one of the territories in Montevideo Department that has registered the greatest influx of migrants coming from non traditional originating in Latin America, within the new migration flow. The sustained growth has shown up certain conflicts in the city making visible the actual challenges in migratory policies and urban planning. This research seeks to generate an input from geography to reflect on this problem. It is about an approach to the sense of place construction among Venezolan and Dominican women living in Municipality B of Montevideo, through the analysis of their relationship with the public space. The meaning construction of space influences on the integration of the migrant people to the city and their capacity to appropiate the urban space. In turn, the category of place allows to visualize the everyday experience processes in a global sense, to the extent that places constitute a pieces of a broader migratory territory. The elements in the conformation of places are explored through semi-structured intervews and mental maps. The reflexion about these elements is complemented with a gender perspective in the urban approach. The results indicate that, for the case of the intervewees, the use of the public space is influenced by the location of the residence, leasure time and social networks available. In turn, landscape, ways of inhabiting the space and social receptivity are some aspects to consider about the attachment to the place.
