    Abstract:
This work deals with 2D numerical simulations of two-phase flows in a gas-solid fluidized bed. A general numerical setting has been constructed based on twophase Eulerian-Eulerian model and the kinetic theory of solid particles using twoPhaseEulerFoam solver implemented in the open source CFD package OpenFoam. The numerical results were validated with experimental measurements available in the literature. Two superficial gas velocities ugas = 0.38 and 0.46 m/s were considered, and the the numerical results were analyzed in terms of both instantaneous and time-averaged solid volume fraction, pressure drop, and instantaneous gas velocities. Simulation results are in good agreement with the data available in the literature. Different momentum exchange coefficient for drag modeIs has been tested, and found that the Syamlal O' Brien model provide slightly better results of the averaged solid fraction than the Gidaspow model. Comparison between both regimes of the gas, laminar and turbulent, show no major differences in the averaged solid fraction profile. Further investigations, such as 3D simulations must be achieve in order to provide a complete analysis of the hydrodynamic and the flow pattern.
