    Abstract:
To know the perception of women about their experience in the process of childbirth has aroused considerable interest in recent years. Also, associations and political institutions have promoted actions among professionals the consideration and respect toward the participation in the decision-making of women with regard to their deliveries. However, currently remains dominant biomedical model in clinical relations, which weakens the concept of power and shared responsibility among health professionals and users. The Servei Andorrà d’Atenció Sanitària has registered a volume of Caesarean sections is around 30% to 40% in the last ten years, considered, according to the World Health Organization (1985), as a excessive medical intervention, and we therefore leads to question us whether, in Andorra, the role of women in decision-making process is respected. Objective: To know the experiences with the active participation in the decision-making of those women who come to perform his delivery to the Hospital Nostra Senyora de Meritxell. We propose the hypothesis that women perceive that they have little chance of participation and they are not consulted in the decision-making that affects them during childbirth. At the same time, this low level of participation and decision-making perceived by women involves a lackluster experience to the process of childbirth. Methodology: Project onto this research by applying a qualitative methodology from a phenomenological approach to obtain an in-depth knowledge about the perceptions of women with respect to their active participation in the childbirth experience. Participation observation and in depth interviews will be the techniques that will be used for the collection of information. Key Words: Childbirth, Childbirth experience, Patient participation
