    Abstract:
In 25 healthy men, 30 to 50 years of age, with LDL cholesterol in decils 1 modal and 9, of a population of 201 subjects who had been previously analysed, the relationship between diet and kinetic parameters of LDL and LDL receptor activity were studied. No calculable differences existed among the diets of the three groups. Cholesterol intake as well as that of saturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids did not correlate with the synthesis or catabolism of the apoB-LDL. Only the monounsaturared fatty acids, which represent 18% of the calories supplied by the group, in the dorm of olive oil, showed an indirect correlation with the apoB-LDL synthesis (r=0.48; p<0.05) and a direct correlation with the levels of cholesterol in the HDL (r=0.45; p<0.05). These data further support the beneficial role of olive oil on the plasma lipids.
