Gold catalysis: Total Synthesis of the Englerins and an Approach Towards Shisanwilsonene A

Over the last years, our research group reported several methodologies dealing with the activation of alkynes using gold as a catalyst. One of the objectives of this Thesis was the development of a new catalytic system for the intramolecular [4+2] cycloaddition of aryl enynes. After screening of different ligands and several optimizations, up to 88% ee could be obtained by using a bulky chiral gold phosphite. The two other chapters of this Thesis are dealing with the synthesis of natural products involving a gold-catalyzed transformation as a key step in the synthesis. The total synthesis of (-)-englerins A and B is reported and a study towards the synthesis of Schisanwilsonene A is also described.
