Pacientes crónicos complejos y atención domiciliaria: Percepciones sobre el cuidado de su enfermera/o de referencia

Abstract:
General objective: To explore the perception that complex chronic patients have of the home care they receive from their referring nurse. Specific objectives: To describe and understand the phenomenon from the point of view of each patient. To go deeper into the meaning, they give to the care they receive. To analyse whether changes in the perception of care occur throughout their illness process. To detect the weaknesses and strengths of the home care they receive. Methodology: Qualitative, descriptive and interpretative study with a purposive sample of 24 patients with a clinical profile of complex chronic patient, assigned to the home care programme, belonging to the Poblenou primary care team in Barcelona, between 2016-2018. Once the informed consent was signed, an ad hoc questionnaire was used to determine the sociodemographic profile and variables and a semi-structured audio-recorded interview. Once transcribed, it was analysed using the Colaizzi method (1978), based on the referential framework of Dr. Kristen Swanson's Theory of Care (1991). Results: The sample consisted of 24 patients; 50% women and 50% men, with a mean M=83.83 years. One of the most significant findings was the positive evaluation that all patients gave to the care provided by their nurse of reference, describing the personal and professional values that they observed in their relational dynamics, which have allowed for a close, trustworthy, empathetic, compassionate relationship and a source of emotional support that has motivated them to move forward in the transitions of life.
