Abstract:
This thesis is a study about word-formation in Catalan language (descriptive lexical morphology) with a synchronic point of view. It describes the resources to obtain action-and-effect nouns related morphologically and semantically with verbs. So, it describes too rules, trends and restrictions in this area (affixal government, homonymous blocking, semantic displacement, etc). The study is structured in sections: suffixation (trencar 'to break' > trencament 'breakage'; organitzar 'to organize' > organització 'organization'; reciclar 'to recycle' > reciclatge 'recycling'; obrir 'to open' > obertura 'opening'; rodolar 'to roll' > rodoló [a rodolons 'rolling']; trobar 'to find' > troballa 'discovery'; cridar 'to yell' > cridadissa 'a lot of yells'; dringar 'to tinkle' > dringadera 'clinking'; socarrar 'to singe' > socarrim 'singeing'; xiular 'to whistle' > xiulet 'whistling'), conversion or derivation-0 (tast/tastar, permís/permetre), grammatical habilitation (menjar una cosa > el menjar; caure > la caiguda de l'euro) and other (pidolar > pidolància; operar > operatòria; morphemes like -mec in xarrar > xarrameca; etc)
