    Atrial fibrillation is associated with big impact on health. Although guidelines establish the importance of rate control as a base in the management, low rate of recommendations adherence exists in the emergency department. In order to improve the effectiveness in the treatment of patients with atrial fibrillation, based on an extensive multicenter study, a decision trees model has been developed that allows for recognising prognostic predictive factors of treatment results and, in this way, propose categorical recommendations that assists quick decisions-making in emergency departments. Thus, it was found that men with atrial fibrillation >48 hours in which digoxin is used, the worst results in rate control and symptom relief were obtained. Implement strategies for optimal rate control in these patients are areas of improving the quality of care in emergency departments.
