    Abstract:
A novel and sensitive method for the determination of benzotriazole, benzothiazole and benzensulfonamide compounds in fish has been developed in this project. Pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) and solid phase extraction (SPE) were used as sample preparation techniques and gas chromatography followed by mass spectrometry (GC–MS) was used to determine the analytes. A clean-up and evaporation step were needed in order to minimise matrix effect and concentrate the analytes, respectively. This project is focused on the optimisation of the GC-MS, PLE and clean-up conditions. First of all, the gradient of temperature was optimised in order to achieve a good separation between the peaks of the compounds. After that, hot Milli-Q water was chosen as the extraction solvent in PLE because of the recoveries and matrix effect. Finally, Florisil and silica gel were tested as clean-up sorbents, both of them acidified with sulfuric acid. Florisil was used in in-cell PLE and SPE clean-up steps, while silica gel was employed only in the SPE. Due to the results, silica gel was considered a better clean-up sorbent than Florisil.
