Abstract:
The figure of the school nurse is defined as the nursing professional who performs their functions, activities and interventions in the school environment and provides care and health care in the school. The School Nurse although in our country is a great unknown, is not a new figure since it is already institutionalized and consolidated in other countries. The school plays a very vital role in the health of the community, because the period of compulsory schooling coincides with the most favorable age of development of the individual, in all physical, psychological, emotional and social aspects; In addition, at this time, young people are exposed to many risks and adopt habits and health behaviors that will extend into adulthood. The main objective of this literature review is to analyze the current situation of school health in Spain and to identify if it is necessary the integration of the figure of a School Nurse. For this purpose, different databases and magazines, both digital and paper, were consulted. Finally, after applying inclusion criteria and deleting duplicate articles, 16 articles were obtained. The results are related to the objective and most of the information analyzed, for the accomplishment of the work, manifests the need to incorporate this new figure, in ordinary schools, since it is reinforced positively by its benefits both for students with Diseases as for the entire educational community. But in our country there is still insufficient evidence and there is not much information or studies that demonstrate the need for this figure, so it would be necessary to continue research on this topic.
