Abstract:
This report is about an analysis of the evolution of value creation in five companies which are included in Ibex 35, the reference indicator of Spain. This companies are Abertis Infraestructuras, S.A., Iberdrola, S.A., Telefónica, S.A., Acciona, S.A. and Industria de Diseño Textil, S.A. We analyse their annual accounts and their stock quotes to find out if they can create value year after year. The study is located between sixteen years, from 2000 to 2015. We have eight years when Spain was in a period of economic growth (2000-2007) and eight years in an economic recession (2008-2015), which allows us to compare the incidence that could have caused the economic crisis in the creation of value of these companies. The development of the report consists in using several indicators. And after using the necessary methods, we analyse the results obtained and we discuss them. In addition, this study has been carried out through “Contingency tables” using “Chi-Quadrat” statistics to perform the analysis between the two objective study periods, the economic growth and the recession. We will be able to see if the economic crisis has affected the creation of value for companies. After we obtain the results of our analysis, we will be able to see that there is a real difference in the creation of value between the period of economic growth and the period of recession. In addition, we will be able to see that the creation of value does not depend only on the benefits of a company, but the effects of many other factors.
