    Abstract:
Polyethylene glycol is a polyether with a wide range of applications in different industries, such as pharmaceuticals or cosmetics. The physical and chemical properties of these polymers influence the characteristics of the final product, so it is important to know them. The Size Exclusion Chromatography is of interest for the study of the final applications of the polymers, because through this technique the amplitude of the distribution of the molar mass of the polymer is obtained, which defines its properties, that affect both the processing and its end use. The company Industrias Quimicas del Óxido de Etileno requires a method to control the quality of the polyethylene glycol manufactured in its plants. The study described in this report shows the optimization of a size exclusion chromatography method for the analysis of polyethylene glycol samples of molar masses between 190-9000 g/mol, and the subsequent obtaining of the distribution of molar masses of the polymer.
