Abstract:
The sense of well-being on the institutionalized elderly people is the subjective personal experience related to the felt living standards. The intention of this work is to aim the perception of the elderly people related to the admission on a geriatric institution. First, it was made a bibliographical search of the last twenty-five years in different languages such as Spanish, Catalan, English and Portuguese. Secondly, three old women who were admitted during the last three months at the geriatric institution answered a semi-structured interview. As main results, interviews show that the main feeling was the lost of freedom, missing the privacy of their own homes. They also declared feeling apart of the family, and recognized suicidal ideas during the old age. Furthermore, they recognized being well cared on the retirement home, receiving satisfactory cares, but they also felt in some occasions being badly treated by the geriatric institution staff and, what is more, they declared that they had some arguments with other users of the institution Key words: Admission, geriatric residence, institution, institutionalized elderly perception, geriatric nurse assessment.
