    Abstract:
The permanent process of depopulation that the Ribera de Ebro region has been experiencing since the mid-1980s is directly related to the fall of the industrial-energy sector in the area, which has generated large volumes of employment and wealth, but has monopolised the economy of the territory. This situation is aggravated in the northern part of the region, where the dependence on the sector is total. The differences between the municipalities of the two parts of the Ribera de Ebro are becoming increasingly evident, and the transformation of the socio-economic model of the northern area is a necessity. Currently, the Flix industry is about to disappear, and the Ascó Nuclear Power Plant will be 40 years old in 2024, leaving uncertain future prospects. An interior area, isolated, with little qualified labor mass, without the two main sources of employment, and with environmental problems derived from this activity.
