    Abstract:
The delivery is the principal risk factor in the appearance of perineal tears during the birth and dysfunctions of the pelvic floor during postpartum. The present study, analytic and descriptive, through a bibliographic review, has as first objective: to describe the effectivity of perineal massage, and pelvic floor muscles exercises in the prevention of tears during birth and dysfunctions in the postpartum. After analysing the results, we can conclude saying that both perineal massage and the performance of pelvic floor muscles exercises (EMSP) should be performed during pregnancy in order to prevent complications arising from birth. The application of perineal massage during birth does not guarantee the integrity of the perineum, and may lead to tears during it. It is worth noting the great difference between the Nordic countries and Spain, in terms of the implementation and research of the studied techniques, as reflected in the analysis of the results. Therefore, we propose, as a new line of investigation, the analytical case-control study of an indeterminated number of pregnant women.
