Abstract:
Most companies evolve into a modeled economic system, which is currently violated by the decline of natural resources, the high cost of energy and the degradation of the environment. Circular economy is an economic model that is based on the efficient management of resources through repair, reuse and recycling activities; it aims to maintain the utility and extend the life of products, components and natural resources. The study consists in determining the level of implementation and the degree of awareness of the circular economic model in Terres de l'Ebre. Firstly, the generation of municipal and industrial waste from the Ebre territory is analyzed in comparison with other regions. The degree of dependence on waste has been studied with regard to other factors and, moreover, the impact of the emission of greenhouse gases on economic growth has been determined. The study shows that most of the companies interviewed do not have knowledge of this new economic model, although some apply it to the productive process. This research demonstrates that Terres de l'Ebre occupies second place, after EU-27 regarding the reduction of municipal waste. Regarding industrial waste, it has been observed that Ebre territory generates waste below the average of Catalonia and Spain. According to the statistical data, only Montsià and Terra Alta have achieved the objectives of the General Program for the Prevention of Waste and Resources of Catalonia 2013-2020 and the Europe 2020 Strategy of the European Union. During the period studied, the validity of the relationship between the impact of economic growth and environmental quality is checked. The factor that has the greatest influence on the emission of waste is the percentage of the Gross Industrial Added Value. Various strategies, mechanisms and tools can be adopted by the development of the circular economy by the public authorities.
