    Abstract:
The main theme of this work is the concept of tourism-phobia understood as the process of overcrowding or tourist saturation that are suffering different urban destinations today. The objective of this work is, on the one hand, to deepen the context and origin of the phenomenon and its interpretation in the current reality. And on the other hand, to show the effects caused by an overexploitation of the resources of a destination. Following studies on carrying capacity, the index of tourist irritation and the life cycle, the theoretical framework defining the phenomenon of tourism-phobia has been constituted. The current trend in tourism is one of growth, and as can be observed, this growth can be disproportionate in certain situations that lead to the degradation of cities and the alteration of the perception of the resident population, which in some destinations, manifests an attitude of rejection towards tourists. The national and Catalan panorama is also suffering from the increase in the number of tourists received year after year. For this reason, it is necessary for the city of Tarragona to establish guidelines and control measures for tourism in order to prevent the presence of tourist activities from becoming a relevant problem.
