Abstract:
This final degree project aims to make an approximation to the theory of games from a theoretical and practical point of view. In first instance, in the theoretical part we will present the most important theoretical concepts. Among those we will see an introduction to game theory, the properties and solutions of cooperative games, and then a description of the various distribution rules that can solve a problem. In the practical part of this project the objective is to solve and analyze a bankruptcy problem, in particular, the financing problem of the Catalan public universities. A bankruptcy problem occurs when the value to be distributed is insufficient to cover the demands of the various participating players. This problem occurs in 2014, when the budget allocated to universities has decreased due to the economic crisis and universities have the same demands as in previous years, therefore, the budget in 2014 will not be able to meet these demands. The financing problem of the Catalan public universities will be resolved through the following distribution rules: proportional rule, adjusted proportional rule, constrained equal awards, constraint equal losses and the Talmud rule. Finally, we will see the different allocations that we obtain when solving the problem following the different rules of distribution. We will also see which rule benefits more to each one of the universities involved.
