    Abstract:
Introduction: With the increasing emergence of complications in the wounds' healing, and the growing number of microbial resistances, new cure methods, or traditional methods that were in disuse, such as honey in topical use, have emerged. Its use dates back to thousands of years. Currently its use has been growing again, being one of the components of different dressings types marketed for its antibacterial property. Objectives: The main purpose of the work was to describe honey's therapeutic benefits for topical use in wounds. Methodology / Results: The review was carried out by looking for articles in databases: Cinhal, PubMed, Cuiden, Scopus and Scielo, and finally 15 articles were selected, with a total population of 892 people analyzed. Among the types of articles chosen, there are clinical trials, clinical cases and observational studies. Conclusions: According to the reviewed bibliography, it can be affirmed that, the honey application in the healing of wounds offers beneficial properties to fight new resistances that appear on the traditional cure methods. On the other hand, the effectiveness of honey and the use of Silver Sulfazidine in wounds does not show significant differences in cure rates, therefore, it can be said that they are equally beneficial in practice. It also supports the idea that honey improves the healing of different types of wounds, providing scars with better skin properties. Finally, mention that, the wounds that, according to the bibliography, respond better to the treatment with honey are: burns and surgical wounds; being the vascular ulcers those that do not show any benefit.
