Benefits of sport and physical activity in children with autism spectrum disorder

    Abstract:
    Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), is a developmental disorder characterized by communication problems, social interaction deficit and restricted behaviors, this disorder tends to manifest itself during the first years of childhood. On the other hand, sports and physical activity provide great benefits in the physical, psychological and social development of adults, children and adolescents. Little is known about the sports participation of children with ASD, so this literature review focuses on the analysis of the main positive aspects of sport and physical activity in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. . The review focuses the objective on the collection of the main benefits at the level of social interaction and physical, motor and cognitive condition that sports practice provides and the main types of sports that benefit children the most. After the analysis of the 15 articles chosen for the review, the results of the study showed that great benefits are obtained in autistic children after sports practice and the realization of physical exercise in different dimensions of the person. This also entails an improvement in the quality of life of children and their families.
