    Abstract:
Bacterial infection activates coagulation through immunombosis. Neutrophils are the first line of defense against bacterial infection, but their mechanism of action in prosthetic infections (PI) is unknown. One possible mechanism would be the release of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), extracellular DNA networks, histones and granule proteins, which are released by neutrophils. The NETs are highly prothrombotic and there is evidence of their presence in the bacterial biofilm of the IPs. Our aim is to explore the usefulness of thrombotic markers, NETs, IL-6, alpha-defensin and the thrombin generation test (TGT), for the diagnosis and / or prognosis of IP, since currently there are no diagnostic tests with sensitivity / 100% specificity.
