Abstract:
In recent years, a process of change is being observed in the field of obstetrics with a tendency to humanization of childbirth and delivery. Within this evolution, there is the cesarean section. Women who are subjected to a cesarean section, can benefit from a more humanized environment with practices that can be carried out during the surgical procedure in order to improve the experience of women and their more intimate surroundings. Within this process we find the accompaniment to the pregnant during cesarean section, a tool for emotional support to the mother. Among the numerous physical and emotional benefits that cesarean delivery brings to the baby, the pregnant and the family link, we highlight the reduction of maternal anxiety, fear and pain; the contribution of confidence and safety to the woman, and the opportunity to allow a better parent-child relationship, among others. Looking at the benefits presented by this practice, it was investigated in which hospitals was carried out in the Catalan territory, in addition to analyzing how they performed the key aspects of the practice in each center and if they had a protocol that regulated it. It was seen that in 58% of hospitals in Catalonia allowed accompaniment in cesarean section, but only in 54% of them had a protocol that regulated it. These results, added to the discrepancies obtained in other key aspects valuated, considered necessary and beneficial the creation of a model protocol that unified the criteria of work towards the accompaniment in cesarean section.
