Abstract:
Introduction: In Spain sadly, there are more than 25,000 cardiorespiratory arrests a year, which means that we are facing a important public health problem. For this reason, the professionals in health are continually training on cardiopulmonary resuscitation, because they give a great importance to the good realization of the techniques, but also leaving aside the emocional part of the process. Aims: Is to know the emotions, perceptions and experiences of the nurses who work in the emergency service during Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation which is third level in the Hospital of Tarragona. Method: We have done a qualitative research. Four nurses from the emergency service of the Joan XXIII University Hospital participated in our study, the election of the participants was done using non-probabilistic sampling for convenience-relevance. Afterwards, we transcribed all the interviews manually. Results: The negative emotions that appear are sadness, stress and frustration, generated when cardiopulmonary resuscitation has not been effective and the patient ends up dying. The most common positive emotions are well-being and happiness because the professionals have been able to reverse cardiac arrest and the professional has the satisfaction that he has done a good job. Conclusions: Nurses who have been working in the emergency department for a long time through their experience have created a number of mechanisms or methods to face situations that have impacted them in a more personal way. Within these methods the most common and widely recognized is the support between co-workers.
