Breast cancer risk factors. Quantitative study of women in the region on Catalonia.

Abstract:
Cancer is the main cause of death worldwide; breast cancer is among the 5 cancers with the highest mortality (2). According to the Spanish Cancer Association"1 out of 8 women will have breast cancer throughout their lives" (1). The incidence of breast cancer is constantly increasing, because of this, there is a need to incorporate new prevention strategies in order to reduce morbidity rates. Knowledge of the risk factors related to this disease and its study facilitates this incorporation. Objectives: To know the main risk factors associated with the development of breast cancer and to study deeply them through a survey addressed to women in the region of Catalonia. Material and methods: Quantitative and descriptive study based on cross-cutting survey method. The main instrument was the survey of women over the age of 18 in the region of Catalonia. Through the Google Forms app, we obtained a total of 595 surveys conducted. From the Excel and PSPP program, the data obtained was analysed, drawing up tables and charts. Results: A total of 595 women surveyed were included in our study. The age range of women goes from 19 years to 81 years, with an average of 41. The study assesses the presence of both modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors in women in the Region of Catalonia. Conclusions: With this study we have been able to look at the large number of women with risk factors front of breast cancer. This is a reason for reflection since many of the risk factors studied are modifiable. Despite being able to reduce the risk in many cases, the number of women exposed is very high.
