Institutionalization to deinstitutionalization of the mentally ill.

    Abstract:
    Deinstitutionalization is a concept that came to Spain along the 80 through the psychiatric reform intended to close all asylums (Desviat, 2011; Sánchez 2011). By deinstitutionalization understand a process that happens to keep people with mental illness in psychiatric hospitals to give them a decent and integrated into society care through theoretical models based on improving the quality of life. The intent of this scientific paper is to address the process of deinstitutionalization of the mentally ill through the tutelary concept that is part of the current community therapy entity. The literature review on the topic identified some initial questions: What alternative mental health currently exist to address the problem of institutionalization? The results show how the entity foster mental health impacts positively on the issue of institutionalization and what mental patients improve their quality of life thanks to the supervisory body. The methodology used was based on participant observation, interviews with patients and search field documentation related to the topic.
