Life lessons and experiences in the Macrobiotic Practice. A healthy perspective.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Nursing encompasses all practices dedicated to caring for the person. The alternative or complimentary medicines are being used, more each day, by the population and they coexist with biomedicine. Within them we include the macrobiotic practice which favours and promotes healthy eating habits. Our aim is centred on: recollecting the discussions on macrobiotic eating practices, its benefits, meanings and results perceived from the users. Methodology: it is based on a qualitative investigation with a phenomenological focus using a semi-structured interview and participative observation as information gathering tools. There have been six informants and the observation has been carried for a period of a week in a centre dedicated to macrobiotics. From the results and analysis we can distinguish an improvement in the self-care and self-perception and a decline of pharmaceutical drug intakes. This has brought us to the conclusion: macrobiotics are related to health improvement from the users. It makes it necessary that nursing expands on their knowledge on this therapy so they might be able to provide comprehensive support to the patient that practices it.
