    Abstract:
In this paper is analyzes the existing legal framework on energy efficiency, energy saving and renewable energy (particularly in the field of building) both in the context of the European Union and in the Spanish and Catalan context, as well as the competences taken in the matter. In the second part of this paper a study of the current regulation on electrical auto-consumption and a brief reference to its legal background are performed. Finally, a study of the legal viability of energy self-sufficiency of the prototype PLT-BOX (sustainable housing) within the Spanish legal framework is carried out. In this manner, the applicable legislation, the necessary authorizations and possible obligations of the holders of an installation isolated from the electrical distribution network, whether it is an independent grid system as if collective, is analyzes.
