Abstract: Aquesta tesi té com a objectiu examinar els efectes que l'aprenentatge de llengües estrangeres té en la vida útil, amb un enfocament particular en l'edat adulta i les seves diferents etapes. Comença a revisar múltiples àrees relacionades amb l'aprenentatge de llengües, el desenvolupament del cervell, l'estructura i la funció, el bilingüisme, el multilingüisme i alguns mètodes per mesurar els canvis en el cervell. A l'efecte d'aquest estudi, dos científics cognitius van ser entrevistats a través de Microsoft Teams, i les seves respostes es van utilitzar per demostrar o refutar la hipòtesi. A més, els resultats no només mostren la interpretació, sinó també com s'aplica a l'apartat teòric. Aquest estudi mostra com les persones de l'edat adulta tardana poden assolir un domini similar al de les llengües natives a l'hora d'aprendre. També assenyala la importància de ser conscient dels beneficis de l'aprenentatge de llengües, ja que suposaria la promoció d'un envelliment cognitiu saludable i el retard de les malalties neurològiques que són habituals a la fi de l'edat adulta a causa d'un dèficit en l'entrenament cerebral. This thesis aims to examine the effects that learning foreign languages has on the lifespan, with a particular focus on adulthood and its different stages. It begins reviewing multiple areas related to language learning, brain development, structure and function, bilingualism, multilingualism, and some methods to measure changes in the brain. For the purpose of this study, two cognitive scientists were interviewed through Microsoft Teams, and their answers were used in order to prove or disprove the hypothesis. Furthermore, the results not only show the interpretation but also how it applies to the theoretical section. This study exhibits how people in late adulthood can achieve native-like proficiency when learning languages. It also states the importance of being aware of the benefits of learning languages since it would mean the promotion of healthy cognitive aging and the delay of neurological diseases that are common in late adulthood due to a deficit in brain training.
