    Abstract:
High-risk mental status (HRMS) is associated with an increased risk of developing psychosis and a higher prevalence of cardiometabolic risk factors, which could explain higher premature morbidity and mortality. This study evaluated the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (METS) in 25 HRMS patients, using International Diabetes Federation (IDF) criteria. It found a prevalence of METS of 8% (5.9% in men and 12.5% in women). Men showed increased TAS, triglycerides and low HDLC levels, while women had increased waist circumference and TAS, and low HDLC levels. Relationships were identified between glucose levels and neuroleptic treatment, and between triglycerides and benzodiazepine doses in men. The findings underline the importance of identifying these risks from the early stages of psychosis in order to improve lifestyle habits.
