    Abstract:
This work analyses the variability of the pre-competitive psychological state and performance in school-age road cyclists (8-14 years). The study, born from observation in monitoring tasks, confirms that the official competition transforms the playful climate of training into manifestations of nervousness and loss of self-confidence. Using hierarchical linear regression models, it is demonstrated that the child's internal resources (stress control, motivation and mental skills) assume the real predictive weight of anxiety, relegating contextual factors and physical experience. Finally, team cohesion is confirmed as the essential relational filter for the self-assessment of success.
