Impact of Virtual Reality on the Timed Up and Go Test (TUGT) in Community-Dwelling Older Adults: A Systematic Review of Randomized Controlled Trials

    Identifier:  TFM:2207
    Authors:  Vásquez Gómez, María José
    Abstract:
This systematic review examined the effect of virtual reality (VR) programs on performance on the Timed Up and Go Test, assessing whether the results approached safe functional ranges for age. Twelve trials with 1,452 older adults without acute pathologies were included. All showed improvements after the intervention, especially with non-immersive VR (4–20%). Interventions of ≥6 weeks focused on functional mobility were more effective. Despite methodological limitations, VR is positioned as an accessible and effective strategy to improve balance and prevent falls in older people
