Title in different languages: The mathematics of language. Interlingual teaching of syntax
Abstract: ABSTRACT This final work, The Mathema3cs of Language. Interlingual Teaching of Syntax tries to, a>er an analysis of the bibliography that deals with the teaching of grammar and bilingualism, to propose a joint teaching of the Catalan and Spanish grammars in the secondary schools. This is because, since the students of Catalonia are bilingual (at least), it may be successful and innova3ve to study the grammar of their two mother tongues, seeing what equals and what differen3ates them. For this, two textbooks corresponding to the second ESO course have been thoroughly analyzed, comparing the gramma3cal contents, either in the way of presen3ng them as coun3ng the number of pages dedicated to each of topics. We have also searched for the repeated content, in the same book and in the comparison with the other. Finally the 40 sessions that would be des3ned to the study of the joint grammar have been designed. To do so, it has been decided that it may be more useful for students to learn from texts and oral language analysis. Different types of text are proposed: literary, tradi3onal stories, comics, etc. Also, we can use sitcoms and videos that students are likely to see or have seen. Some conclusions have been drawn and a sec3on of future work has been included where different con3nua3ons of this final work are proposed.
