Title in different languages: Automation and design of a reverse osmosis plant
Abstract: The project is generally based on the design of the reverse osmosis plant and the automation of this plant. The plant design consists in the election of the principal equipment and the instrumentation to achieve the control of the plant. The principal equipment in the osmosis reverse treatment are the membranes. This equipment is responsible for making a reverse osmosis process. Other important equipment are the impulsion pumps and the filter. The filter is important because with a good pre-treatment, the plant works correctly and in the optimal conditions. Also the pumps are important, because they give pressure to the system. The pressure is necessary, because the reverse osmosis process needs pressure to work correctly. The process elected is a reverse osmosis plant with two passes. With only one pass, the quality of water is not enough, for this reason is necessary to use two passes. With two passes, the quality of water respects the requirements of the company, and the membranes that used in the process are membranes ESPA2 Hydranautics. Also the instrumentation equipment and the accessories are selected in the project. The instrumentation equipment is responsible to achieve the control of the plant. The most important instrumentation equipment are the conductivity transmitters, because they analyze the quality of the water, one requirement established by the cosmetic company client. Aside from the water quality, another requirement is the dimension of the plant, which means, the flow of the exit in the plant. For this reason, another important equipment is the flow meter. In order to design the plant, the IMSDesign software programme has been selected in the project. This programe is used to simulate reverse osmosis plants with different types of membranes. After the simulation, the results of the plant are: Exit flow (m3/h) 7,2 m3/h Water quality (μS/cm) 2,2 μS/cm Performance plant (%) 75-80% Apart from designing the plant, also the automation of the plant is done. In order to do the automation, the software program Simatic STEP 7 has been used to create the programming of the plant. The programming consists of choosing the elements of the plant that we want to control and create a program that makes actuators and sensors of the plant work correctly, in order to maintain the correct functioning of the plant. Aside from programming, the equipment of the automation is selected. Furthermore, to automate the plant, it has been chosen the Siemens S7-300 PLC. The automation equipment is composed by the CPU (Central Process Unit), inputs and outputs digital blocks; and inputs and outputs analog blocks. The plant is composed by: 1 block digital inputs and 3 blocks digital outputs; and 2 blocks of analog inputs and 1 block of analog outputs. These elements will be responsible for doing the automation of the plant and verifying the compliance of the requirements established by the company that hired the creation of a reverse osmosis plant.
