Abstract: With globalization, people have taken on a series of habits of consumption and behavior, rather than contributing positively to the environment in which we live, what we get is to disfigure this environment. The increased of consumption leads to increased waste generation; therefore the environment must assume not only the consume of more natural resources, renewable and non-renewable, but also assimilate the waste generated, which are more every time. However, keep in mind that not in all the territories the people consume in the same way, which means that, generally, doesn’t consume or generate the same amount of waste a person who lives in a developed country than a person who lives in a developing country. People’s consumption directly affects the environment where we live, mortgaging it, putting it in a risk, and creating the possibility that the region presents a significant ecological deficit. Of all the indicators that exist, the ecological footprint is one that provides information about the consumption and the generation of waste, and calculated how much surface of an area needs each person to meet your needs. Nowadays it takes more than one earth to live, more than one earth so that it can assimilate our actions of consumption and waste generation. This study wants to calculate which is the ecological footprint of Vila-seca, associating it to some specific problems and looking for some solutions to reduce it.
