Abstract: In the present work, we propose a novel PFA (polyfurfuryl alcohol)-modified pSi biosensor for the detection of bacterial 16SrRNA. Electrografting of 4-aminobenzoic hydrazide (4-ABH) provided the most stable sensing platform for the subsequent immobilization of DNA capture probe. The developed DNA sensors measured the blockage as an increase of the charge-transfer resistance, indicating that the hybridization between the capture probe and the target DNA successfully occurred. We have successfully developed a pSi-based electrochemical biosensor able to sensitively and selectively detect a target DNA, which is a first step towards the detection of bacterial pathogens through their specific 16SrRNA growth markers.
