    Abstract:
In a representative sample of Reus population the micronutrient ingestion vas quantified by means of the method 24 hour recall. The risk of nutritional deficiency was analysed by means of a probability estimation on the basis of the assumed needs. The probability risk of inadequate iron intake was significant in children aged 2 years, girls aged 15-17 years, boys aged 9-14 years and women in gestational age. The risk probability of inadequate intake of calcium was significant in girls aged 7-10 years and in males aged 9-14 and 35-64 years. The same was true for riboflavin in teenagers aged 15-17 years and males aged 35-64 years. Significant risks were not found for vitamin A, ascorbic acid, tiamine, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12. In families with low socioeconomic status the intake of calcium, iron and riboflavin was lower. In developed countries, groups with risk of inadequate micronutrient intake are commonly found; however, this does not necessarily result in clinical features of deficiency.
