LinkedIn and the algorithmic self: implications for human resources and marketing in the contemporary labour market

    Authors:  Martinez Sanchez, Hugo
    Abstract:
This study analyzes the construction of professional identity on LinkedIn within the context of the performance society. Using a mixed-methods design, the study examines 85 profiles of URV graduates and 17 job postings. The results reveal a correspondence between the competencies demanded and self-presentation strategies, characterized by vocational narratives, positive language, and performance-oriented keywords. However, candidates avoid explicitly portraying workplace pressure, instead projecting an optimistic image. The study concludes that digital professional identity aligns with the logics of performance and algorithmic evaluation, thereby intensifying the commodification of the individual.
