    Abstract:
The Spanish Publishers of ELE do not specify in their books neither which is the origin of the words that they collect in them, nor the criteria that they use for collecting the lexicon of their books. If we take into account the importance of Corpora in the context of second language teaching, we pretend to analyze properly the main ELE books to find out, in case it was not specified, which should be the criteria for selecting the lexicon of the level A1 accurately. For this purpose, we will do a research about the criticism and state of the issue, a description of the main textual Corpora in Spanish, a review of the official documents (MCER and PCIC) in this regard and a collection of all the classification attempts of the lexicon by reference levels. From the data collected, we will develop a critical analysis of the relevant factors such as lexical availability or frequency, essential in order to stablish criteria for a lexical selection of the basic vocabulary of Spanish language.
