Abstract:
Introduction Mellitus Diabetes type 2 is a chronic metabolic disease whose prevalence at European and Spanish level is 7% and 12.6% respectively. Objective This study is an update about how therapeutic education in diabetes mellitus type 2 is carried out, to know where and who exercises it, what training this person has, what treatment he or she provides and what benefits the patients obtain. Methodology For the development of this work, a bibliographic review of updated articles dealing with the subject of mellitus diabetes education has been carried out. We have used three search engines (Cinahl, Pubmed y Scopus), using the same keywords to obtain articles. Results 26 Articles published between 2009 and 2018 have been included in the study. In them, we have been able to see that in function of the country there is diversity in the profile of the professional who carries out the education in his formation and in the requirements to exercise as such. In addition , there are multiple ways in which this education is addressed which can hinder adherence to treatment and self-management of the disease. It shows the importance of nutritional education and physical exercise in the prevention and treatment of diabetes. Conclusions We can affirm that there is no equity in financing, guidelines, prevention and comprehensive execution of diabetes, as well as the availability of material and assistance resources, and the requirements to be met by the diabetes educator. It is also necessary to establish a consensus on the guidelines or protocols to be used in diabetological education based on scientific evidence. The treatment approach of this disease must be individualized and personalized, and we are able to use telemedicine and group therapies as a complement, but we can't replace it. Patient participation in treatment planning and a good therapeutic relationship facilitate adherence to treatment and, consequently, self-control and selfmanagement of his or her disease.
