Benefits of equine therapy and dog therapy on the social skills of children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

    Abstract:
    Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). It affects in 1 of 160 children and is estimated to be 5 times more frequent in males than females. The hippotherapy or canine therapy provides benefeits in differents areas of behaviour of children who participate in this type of intervention. To describe the benefits of these therapies a bibliographic search has done in the following databases: Dialnet, Pubmed, Google Academic, Scopus and Cinhal. The period of search for the studies have been between November 2018 and January 2019. 15 publications were analized, all references to intervention studies. Different benefits have been observed such as the reduction of the bad behaviours, the improvements of the social communication, attention, tolerance, empathy and confronting among others. This experience is rewarding not only for children and adolescents but also for their parents and other people related with them.
