    Abstract:
Introduction: Individuals learn to use the word pain through experiences related to injuries experienced during early childhood. These experiences take on a vital role in anticipating and responding to future pain and can have negative consequences in both the short and long term. Avoiding and alleviating suffering is an obligation for healthcare professionals, but the lack of knowledge, the false beliefs and/or myths, and the fear of using pain killers in paediatric patients involve that pain is frequently undervalued and consequently insufficiently treated. Object: To know the current status of the assessment and registration of pain in the hospitalized paediatric patient by the nursing team. Methodology: A bibliographic search of documents dealing with paediatric pain published in scientific databases in the period between 2010 and 2020 has been performed. Results: The prevalence of paediatric pain is very high. There are gaps in the knowledge of health professionals, and false myths and beliefs regarding pain still existing. The existence of barriers in the evaluation scales application, and the scarce and inappropriate use that is made of these scales, determine an exiguous and incorrect pain registration of the hospitalized paediatric patient. Conclusions: Throughout history, paediatric pain has been undervalued and under-treated, however, although it has taken a direction of improvement in recent years, there is still a long way to go to reach an adequate approach to pain in the paediatric patient. There is certainty of little use of standardized paediatric pain assessment scales, even though there is scientific evidence of its favourable results. It has been concluded that there are important gaps in knowledge on the paediatric pain of the nursing professional, which requires effective ongoing and updated training on the assessment and approach of the synthesis in question.
